Anders Timms

Location: England, Cheshire, Macclesfield Speciality: Social Care

Anders has lived with Bipolar disorder for over 30 years. He is the Founder of “Depression, Anxiety & Bipolar disorder (DAB)”, a not-for-profit social enterprise launched in January 2018 to help people who live with or are affected by mental health challenges to improve their day-to-day lives and long-term happiness. Raising awareness, reducing the stigma around mental health and promoting happiness and wellbeing are additional priorities.

From launch, services have included community, group and 1:1 peer support through face to face, online WhatsApp group and texting based solutions, enabling people to be reached even in the depths of their depression and anxiety. Community-based projects are now underway to strengthen positive mental health and happiness mindsets.

In the local community, Anders is the Deputy Chair of the Macclesfield Mental Health forum, a lived experience led user group. Anders is also a founding member of the Cheshire East Mental Health Partnership Board – a collaborative group formed from senior leaders in the NHS, 3rd Sector and Council within the Cheshire East region. Anders is also an Executive Member of the Global Mental Health Peer Network and is involved in the development of an Internally Displaced People (IDP) community-based mental health initiative in Abuja, Nigeria.

Prior to launching DAB, Anders’ 23-year career was spent coaching, guiding, consulting and implementing Lean and Six Sigma performance and mindset improvements in the Construction, Manufacturing (predominantly Automotive and Aerospace), Nuclear and Business support industries.
