Bubble Enterprise Engagement Programme

We have developed an innovative and inclusive training programme aimed at helping marginalised individuals take control of their own futures by becoming more enterprising.
The programme explores enterprise as an alternative opportunity for people who have experienced barriers to employment. Participants are introduced to the essential elements of business and enterprise and explore the concept of enterprise creation.
Bubble has successfully run the programme through-out the North West and South Yorkshire and most recently in Wigan, Manchester and Bolton.
The links between unemployment and poor mental health are well researched and documented. Bubble Enterprises’ Programme engages people with the concept of enterprise as a potential, alternative source of employment and an opportunity for social and economic inclusion.
Bubble’s programme, as part of Wigan’s Worklessness Strategy, provided an opportunity for people in the most challenged areas of the Borough to become more enterprising and to engage with an innovative way of getting back into the world of work. It was a very successful and enjoyable springboard to independence for more than 100 people.”
Mike Kenyon, Senior Regeneration Officer (Programmes), Wigan Council
What is it?
Is an innovative and inclusive programme which enables participants to realise how their daily life skills can be transferred into entrepreneurial activity (see programme content for further details).
Who is it aimed at?
The programme is aimed at budding and new entrepreneurs, people who have not previously considered themselves potential entrepreneurs and staff working with and supporting clients to explore enterprise.
Programme content
The sessions are based around the core necessities for starting a business and delivered in a fun and lively supportive environment which allows participants to safely test out their business ideas, skills and opportunities. Business ideas are explored fully without anyone having to commit their own ideas to start up enterprise before they are ready.
The programme which allows participants to build their skills base and confidence in business planning, marketing, financials such as forecasting, cash flow, profit and loss, pricing, record keeping and compliance, can be delivered in variable time frames. The course also includes personal awareness, support networking and coping with stress and personal budgeting which is critical for all new entrepreneurs.
Outcomes
More than 700 people have taken part in programme over seven years. When it was run most recently in Wigan of 106 people who took part, 20 people went on to form enterprises, 38 people developed the confidence to take the skills they had gained into volunteering positions and six people went on to gain employment.
“For years I’ve had a passion for growing my own organic fruit and vegetables and now I am helping local residents to grow their own as well.
Following on from a recent Enterprise Programme with Bubble Enterprises, I set up the Green Land Girls in early 2011. I am so glad I mentioned my idea to Peter and the team from Bubble Enterprises. 12 months later I have my own organic gardening business and my future is looking better every day. I can’t recommend it highly enough.”
